Choosing a laptop for a salesperson: key features to consider

Portability, weight, power, storage… Our tips to better understand the features of each laptop and choose the right equipment for a salesperson!

Laptop, tablet, 2-in-1 laptop-tablet?

Opt for a lightweight laptop suitable for travel and the highly mobile nature of a salesperson's job. Your employee might also need a secondary fixed screen when at the office to facilitate information processing. Some tablets now have the power of a laptop (like the iPads M2) and, when paired with a keyboard, can also meet salespeople's needs: mobility, ease of demonstrations, and presentations to prospects and clients. Given the specific nature of tablets, it's better to ask your future employee, if possible, what type of device they prefer to work on. The 2-in-1 laptop-tablet can also be a good compromise and appeal to salespeople if you prefer a Windows PC configuration.

MacOS, Windows?

The operating system doesn't matter much when choosing a laptop for your salesperson. Choose the operating system your company is used to working with or the one your employee prefers. Find our detailed selection of laptops at the bottom of this article.

Key technical specifications to prioritize on a laptop for a developer

Which Processor?

What is it?

The processor is essentially the brain of your laptop: it's the component that defines and executes the instructions it receives. A powerful processor allows these intensive instructions to be executed faster. However, download speed will depend on the quality of the internet connection.

Which one to choose?

It’s better to opt for a M1, i5, or i7 processor for your salesperson to enable versatility and the ability to use multiple applications or software simultaneously.

How Much RAM?

What is it?

RAM, or random access memory, helps smooth the laptop's operation. The higher the RAM capacity, the faster the device is and the better it can handle multiple software and applications at the same time.

Which one to choose?

Your salesperson won't need a lot of RAM: 8 GB will suffice for using standard software.

What Storage?

What is it?

Storage is the means of storing the laptop's data and downloading files, software, applications, and updates.

Which one to choose?

For your salesperson, 256 GB of storage will suffice, but it will depend on the number of files they download and the amount of software they need

What Screen?

Opt for a screen of at least 13 inches, preferably Retina for better visual comfort. Choose a lightweight laptop regardless of the screen size.

The Graphics Card and Resolution:

What is it?

The graphics card is the essential component of the laptop that produces a displayable image on a screen. The resolution indicates the pixel density of an image (width and height of the screen).

Which ones to choose?

The graphics card already integrated into the laptop will suffice for a salesperson’s position. A standard or HD resolution will also be enough.

And Accessories?

To maximize your employee’s comfort, don't hesitate to provide them with a headset with a microphone or Bluetooth earbuds to facilitate phone calls and keep their hands free for taking notes.

To Summarize

A lightweight laptop with a screen of at least 13 inches A M1, i5, or i7 processor 8 GB of RAM _256 GB of storage (SSD format is a plus) A standard graphics card often already integrated Accessories to enhance your employee’s comfort and productivity
